With major landfills quickly running out of space, discarded mattresses have become a thorn in landfill operators sides. How big a thorn? A single mattress can take up to 23 cubic feet in space! In just one day at a landfill up to 300 old mattresses and box springs arrive for burial. If you laid them end-to-end, they would stretch more than a third of a mile! For just ONE DAY! Old mattresses don't go away that easily!
